This is my first ever journal entry. We can only hope our kid writes magic like this...
"April, 5th 1992
Today for breakfast we had pancakes. Dad made a joke about Hillary because she sneezed and a'lot of burgers [boogers] came out so my dad said since we usualy feed Hillary pancakes she has to eat some thing else he said that because Hillary was eating her burger [boogers]. Well anyway today is Sunday it is general confrence. I just got this journal on April 4th 1992 this year is leap year. I can't wait till EASTER!!! Last night I went to grammie's house. Yesterday it was hot! Alicia went to a birthday party and came back with chalk. So me and Alicia and me went outside and drew with chalk on the sidewalk. Also yesterday Katie arived at belmont Katie our cousin came to our house yesterday. We did hopskotch. We made one hopskotch so long we ended up with thirty-six hopskotch squares. I did it realy fast. I can do it on one foot! Oh I forgot to tell you Meredith my sister and Melissa Oconer and Lisa came outside too. I traced Alicia and we made a'lot of things. I just want to end this story with saying I like to read I like to write. In the name of jesus christ amen. Last night we didn't take our bath so today we have to take baths."

The truth...
I mislead you. I don't look like the photo below anymore. Not even close. Here is what I looked like a couple days ago. That's what a tricky fetus I have. The pictures were taken 2 weeks apart!

Specimen of the Day: A Fetus
Today we are featuring a fetus as the specimen of the day. And no, this fetus is not of the Cottle, Viera, or Palmer variety...or the variety of any of our other expecting friends. This fetus is ALL NIELSON.
Name: Nielson fetus
Age: 14 weeks (AKA one trimester old)
Expected Date of Arrival: August 18th, 2009
Positive Qualities: Doesn't make me hurl!
Negative Qualities: DOES make me continuously hungry. My boss comments every time he sees me eating; in fact, today at a library-wide awards ceremony I was his opening joke. He announced that the 20 bags of chips would last me through the rest of the afternoon. (In case you think my boss is a jerk, he is really sarcastic and he likes that I can take his jokes. The best part about his joke is that hardly anyone knows I am pregnant--or "with child" as I like to say--so most people were a little offended for me and then self conscious about what they were eating .)
Favorite Memory: Seeing it's semi-formed heart beat at a 6-week ultrasound. Either that or the look on Daniel's face when he heard the heart beat last week. Daniel wouldn't stop giving me five. He's a proud papa.
Favorite Food: I haven't had any cravings. I just want to eat everything. Hopefully this means it isn't picky!
Claim to Fame: Being the first grand-fetus, and eventually grandchild, on both sides of the family.
Favorite Trick: Growing so fast that in a matter of 2 weeks I cannot button my pants, zip up my skirts, or keep my cardigans buttoned.
Purpose of Life: To suck all of the energy out of it's carrier (Ask Daniel; I usually go to bed around 9 PM)
Scary Point: This thing is part me, part Daniel. Think about that. There is potential for the most stubborn, competitive, sarcastic, sassiest (NOT if it is a boy, obviously, boys can't be sassy, DUH), big-nosed, broad-shouldered kid EVER.
This is me a few weeks ago. I am already much bigger. Meredith told me I looked pregnant yesterday and it was very exciting for me. A real milestone. In lieu of one of those trendy countdown widgets I will be providing educational/disturbing pictures in the side bar of what our fetus roughly looks like. Observe at your own risk!

Good News!
Well, nothing in particular, but we decided we need more positive energy on this blog. There has been much negativity in recent posts. Yes, it all really did happen (my ring is still gone, Daniel's ACL torn, dent in the front bumper, etc.), but we are moving on!
Here are some random pictures from the last few months:1. Daniel and I were wrestling and I elbowed him in the nose. Don't mess.
2. We made Christmas treats for our ward with our friends, Fred and Kristina. So crafty! And yes, it was as fun as I made it look. How could 5 hours of making chocolate-dipped pretzels not be fun?
3. Daniel gets a front row seat of Juddy's behind often during games. If you haven't had a 6'7" middle-aged man bend down in your face, then you are missing something special!
4. Portland is beautiful. We went on a hike and saw 5 different waterfalls. Here's one.
5. I got a "macho" burrito at a Mexican restaurant in Salem. This was the other half of it. Macho? Ok, whatever that means I guess.
