New Tricks

A collection of Sadie's new hobbies & abilities...

Sitting in a highchair at restaurants

Grabbing the toys that hang down above her in her excersaucer.

Reaching for any camera within a 5 foot radius (oh and sitting up on her own)

(Sadie actually faceplanted right before this picture. Look at her left cheek- it's all red)

Chubbing up. Look at that belly!

Using a laptop (and standing up holding on to things)

Throwing tantrums (full on arched back and shaking head back and forth)

Holding her own bottle.

Wrestling with Dino Radja, the friendly green dinosaur

Scooting/rolling around (not close to crawling- she rotates on her stomach)

She got from the blanket where she was wrestling Dino Radja to the tv stand by herself. She rolled to her stomach and then rotated 90 degrees on her stomach.

Money

The other day Daniel pointed out that we have paid $25,000 in rent at our current apartment. I am fairly certain that's about 25% of the value of our apartment. So maybe I should claim that over the last 3 1/2 years we have paid off a quarter of a mortgage (just not our own mortgage).

Elephant Child

Sadie woke up like this on Friday. If you can't tell, her face is swollen all around her right eye.
So maybe Elephant Child is an extreme nickname. But in my defense it looked much worse in person and it's always funnier when you exaggerate. She looked like this before she went to sleep on Thursday night:

Just normal, slightly different sized eyes (her left eye is usually a little smaller).

But then she woke up looking like this:

You can see how puffy her eyelid was in this picture.

How does a 7 month old wake up with a swollen face? We had no idea and apparently it is not very common because Sadie's doctor insisted we come in at their soonest available appointment. Unfortunately, that was not until 10:45 AM and by that time Sadie's eye was back to normal so I canceled the appointment.

Only time will tell if the elephant eye will return.

Spectator

We recently attended the basketball game of some friends. At certain points Sadie seemed to be genuinely captivated by the game. Although part of that may have to do with the huge jumbotron she spent most of the time watching.

Of course she still chewed on her book. This is her new favorite chew toy.
She also played with Garlan for a while.
Sang the fight song with dad.

Watched the jumbotron. A lot.

And now.... my favorite picture of the night. Keep in mind that just like the crazy spit-up picture, this picture is not posed in any way. You can't pose a 7-month-old like this.
Hahahahahaha.
(That is less than I have really laughed about this picture. It is one of the best Sadie pictures ever.)
We are still not sure what Sadie got so excited about, but apparently she gets much more excited for cougars than wolverines.

Movie Star

Something happens to Sadie when she sees a camera. She freezes. She can't smile. She can't function. I guess we can cross movie star off our list of ways Sadie is going to make us rich.

At least she laughs when she can't see the camera.

Warm Weather Prep

Sadie is anxious for nicer weather to come. I have been teaching her some summer essentials, this way she'll know exactly what to do when it gets warm.

First, we tried on some sunglasses. I taught her that timeless saying "the more the sunglasses cover your entire face the better".
She wasn't quite sure how to react when her world turned a different color, but once she realized how stylish she looked she loved it.

I took her to the park and taught her how to use a slide. For now we just worked on looking cute at the end of the slide. She doesn't want to be embarrassed when that spring weather rolls around and she doesn't have a cute slide dismount.
She wanted to try it head first so I let her.
Sadie's sure to have the best playground tricks come spring.

Lastly, we have been working on laying out. You can never be too rich, too thin, or too tan, right? Sadie practices- 20 minutes on her stomach, 20 minutes on her back and then repeated. She is slyly showing a little skin here. Whenever she drools a lot it stretches out the neckline of her pjs and suddenly the pjs are scoop neck. Sweet trick Sadie!

My Sweetums

How can you not kiss all over this face?
