BCF

West met Midwest last week when Carrie and Will came to Utah for her sister's law school graduation. Will is our one and only nephew and Sadie's forced best cousin forever. (Sadie has both a forced BFF-n-eva and a forced BCF-n-eva. What kind of parents would we be if we didn't determine Sadie's closest buds while she was in the womb?)

We were so excited to meet Will and he did not disappoint.

But it would appear they smoothed things out when Daniel offered his tasty finger.

When Sadie noticed Will she just tried to grab his face and hair like she does with every baby she sees. Will didn't seem to notice Sadie much.

These two actually look much more alike than I had anticipated. Am I just imagining that? They both have some huge cheeks, wide foreheads and bright blue eyes. I guess we'll have to wait a few years to really find out.

Hard Life

Here are entirely too many pictures (as usual) to illustrate Sadie's daily life...

(She got very mad when I tried to sit her down after the photo. I had to karate chop the back of her knees to get her legs to bend. Man, those legs are strong!)

Notice any kind of theme in all of these pictures? I do.

First, there is usually a mess around Sadie. She loves it when we put a bunch of toys together in a bowl and she can pull them out one by one and throw them on the floor.

Second, Sadie is frequently exhibiting frustration/unhappiness. Anyone else's 9 month old whine constantly? Sadie is a Grade A whiner. Most of it stems from the fact that she can't do what she wants. She wants to crawl and walk and stand up all the time. She can't figure out how to crawl forward, she forgets to hold on while standing up, and her feet get tangled when she tries to walk. Plus, her mean parents refuse to sit behind her holding her up all day. This makes for a very frustrating life. We have GOT to get this girl crawling and/or walking. I'm tired of the whining!

Three Quarters of a Year

I have to give some props to Daniel and myself for keeping a child alive and relatively clean for 9 months. Not only is she just functioning but she is pretty cool (and sometimes cute).

After our trip to the pediatrician it would appear we now have an entirely average-sized daughter.
Oh, except for that noggin. Her brain has seemingly exploded in recent months.
Sadie's stats (feel free to skip):
Height- 27.5 inches (50th percentile)
Weight- 18 lbs 15 oz (52nd percentile)*
Head- 45 centimeters (79th percentile)

*I'm not sure how accurate the weight is since Sadie arched her back so violently while on the scale that she almost propelled herself off the counter. Hey, I understand. I wouldn't want to be weighed while 4 people watch either.

Just so I can be an even more stereotypical mommy blogger let me include these:

Her most favorite things- electronics, paper, credit cards, other kids, Dino Radja, the sound "ba" or "baaaaaa" when she is mad, standing up, pulling up on anything she can, wind/fans/air blown in her face, cheerios, being startled, mom's wet hair, peek-a-boo with a blanket, and clapping along to "If You're Happy and You Know It Clap Your Hands"

Her least favorite things- putting on one-piece pajamas that snap all the way down, sitting down, putting on lotion after a bath, getting in her car seat, baby food with meat chunks, not being able to get where she wants to go by herself

She insisted on being at the front with him during UVU's basketball banquet.

She loves when he blows on her tummy.

Seriously, how much do these two look alike?

Oh and she also loves to chew on her feet/shoes lately.

Daisy Dukes

Last Saturday was the nicest day we've had all year so Sadie joined the rest of Provo's females in donning some short shorts and getting some sun. We were disappointed to discover that these shorts (size 6-12 months) seem to already be too small for our little nugget's bulging belly.

Unfortunately Sadie has inherited her father's chicken legs (except a short person version) and her mother's pot belly. It's a deadly combination for finding pants/shorts that fit.

When we took the shorts off at the end of the day there was a ring around her stomach from the elastic waistband. We are terrible parents but these shorts are so awesome that she may be forced to endure their presence once or twice more.

Happy Easter!

We are having a great Easter here in the Nielson household.

First, Sadie slept through the night! She used to do this every night, but starting at midnight on April 1st Sadie began waking up screaming every 3 hours at night. We could do nothing to console her but get her up and "play" for a while. Sadie has never done anything like this so we hoped it was just a cruel joke for April Fools Day, but Sadie continued this every night until last night. Hallelujah! We are pretty sure we will be seeing some teeth poking out of her gums soon.


Second, Easter means eating crap for breakfast. Not literal crap, but candy. I ate Cadbury Mini Eggs and Sadie got to eat graham crackers- her favorite.


Third, Sadie is playing with the new toys from her Easter basket. Don't worry; we are still lazy parents who didn't buy anything for her, but my mother-in-law came through once again. Sadie is one lucky girl to have her as a grandmother. She sent Sadie an Easter basket filled with lots of new toys. It is great because Sadie is at an age now where she recognizes and loves new toys. We may or may not have let her open the package yesterday.

Sadie fell in love with this rubber ducky basically instantly. We have taken it everywhere we go since Sadie laid eyes on it.



Fourth, we have been reading and laughing at my journal entries from Easter's past. While my 1997 entry about how I got Keroppi (the frog friend of Hello Kitty) stuff I didn't want was entertaining, this one I posted last year is still the best-

"April 3, 1994- I'm dead. I think. I think my Egypt report is due on Wednesday but, I'm not sure. It might be due tommorow or Wednesday. I think it's due on the 6th, which is Wednesday, but Mr. J said to bring it in on Monday. Mom won't let me type any of my report today. Mom's such a jerk, idiot, pea brain, etc. I just hate her. I hate espiecally Meredith. By the way, today is Easter. I got a bat. Yippe. I mean even Hillary got better presents than me. Meredith got a vest at GAP. The most exspensive brand of all. Love, Carly the Mad."

Finally, we have been watching this video of Sadie repeatedly.

Videos

Sadie talks in her sleep all the time. One night I decided to get it on video.

We taught Sadie how to clap a couple weeks ago. She claps constantly now- when she is happy, when she's falling asleep, and when she cries. Oh and the sweet t-shirt blanket behind Sadie was Daniel's birthday present from his mom.


Sadie got some sunglasses from Nickel City last week. We put them on her face when we got home and she loved it.
