4 Weeks Old

Some updates on Sadie:

1. No more doctor's appointments until she is 2 months old! She is now 7 lbs 9 oz (4 oz above her birth weight) and steadily climbing the weight percentile charts (up to the 12th percentile!)

Her hungry face

2. She met her grandpa, uncle, and 2 aunts (only one grandpa, 3 aunts, and 2 uncles left to meet)

3. She continues to give us attitude.
In the sweatshirt Hillary brought her directly from Italy. Look closely at her fingers.

4. Went for her first swim!
She cried, then spit-up, and then peed in the pool.
She did love lounging by the pool in her stylish terrycloth apparel

5. Said good-bye to her friend Hunter.
She was torn up inside while Hunter tried to comfort her

6. We almost caught her smile on camera during her bath!
The very beginning of her smile. Instead, she looks crazy.

THE Day

The calendar on our kitchen wall says "THE day" on today's date. I had August 18th etched in my brain for so long as my due date that I can't believe Sadie is 3 weeks old and today was just another day. In one of my last blog entries before Sadie arrived I wrote about my most recent doctor's appointment said things were moving along well. I thought I would have her a few days early, maybe a week.

Here are a few thoughts from the last 3 weeks:

1. Motherhood is harder than I expected. It's really not the lack of sleep, although that is not fun at all. For me, it is more that now have this person completely dependent on me and I don't know all the answers! That is scary and stressful. I am someone who prepares and researches and plans. When we found out Sadie had lost a concerning amount of weight I was sad, but I thought I could stuff food down her and she'd be fine. The next week when we found out Sadie has GERD (infant acid reflux) I came a bit more unraveled. There is nothing you can do to cure GERD; you can only ease the pain she experiences with medication. The past few days Sadie has refused to eat from me more and more. She is constipated and it is so hard to see her pained looks. But enough complaining! The good news is that Sadie is about back at her birth weight. She is in the 11th percentile for weight and 48th percentile for height.

Here is a typical set-up for Sadie at home:
Burp cloth behind her and on top of her, followed by a blanket. No clothes, just a diaper. No need for clothes- she soaks them fairly quickly. In fact, she almost always spits up as I am putting clothes on her.

2. Sadie is more awesome than I ever expected. And cuter. I was fairly confident we would have a very unfortunate-looking baby. One of the first things I said after she was born was something like "she's not that ugly!" The labor and delivery employees were a little taken aback by us I think. Sadie does make some of the ugliest faces I have ever seen. I love that she scowls a lot, especially in her sleep, just like her dad. She is awesome. She laughs in her sleep sometimes, which is the most exciting thing ever, right? I love that she has a huge rib cage, just like her mama. It makes me laugh every time she stretches out and toots. I am immature. She pees about 50% of the time while she is getting her diaper changed. She is, however, batting 100% in peeing while being changed when we are not at home. I used to bring just one extra outfit when we left the house. Now I bring 2. Some nicknames we have for her: Sadie Lady, Miss Sadie, Little Girl, Sadorade, Sadinator, etc.
Sleeping peacefully one minute...

Screaming the next! She's amazing!

3. People are generous. Our family and friends have been amazing. I don't want to list everything people have done for us for fear I would miss someone. But seriously, we have never felt so loved. We really appreciate all that has been done for us.
Loot from Grandma Nielson

Sorry for the not-so-funny blog post. I promise my other posts after my blog maternity leave will be better!

Spoiled Sadie

Here is a random assortment of pictures from the last little bit. And yes we are well aware that our blog has transformed into a blog all about the peoples kids. It is just the way it goes when one thing/person dictates everything you do. Don't worry Carly will post a journal or something soon.Grandma Nielson came to visit and brought lots of loot for Sadie. She is spoiled. Thanks for everything Ma.
What a lazy bum.
I love this picture cause it looks like she has huge monkey feet. I am expecting her to pick something up with those freak toes.
If you look closely you can see Sadie watching Carly sleep. She probably wonders why mom is so tired. The answer is because Sadie has taken our sleep time and hidden it. And yes she likes to spit up, so for the couches sake she is covered in spit up rags.
Sadie may not like the baths while they are taking place, but she is always happier after.
She looks like she is up to no good.

Clearly this is not of Sadie, but this picture made me laugh. Our friends son Chris was taking pictures of everyone and in the back Hunter is being tortured by his mom as she is making him wear a girls headband. Wrong just wrong.
Sadie told me how excited she is for college football season.
Sadie is queen of weird faces.
Point and case.

Happy Birthday!!!

It is Sadie's one week birthday and because of that we will celebrate with more pictures (don't worry we wont celebrate every week, but I needed a title for the post). Another exciting note is that Sadie slept through the night last night except for her feedings and it was amazing. Maybe it was because Grandma Tina showed up and laid down the law. What ever it was it was amazing. Anyway here are some pictures.Sadie just hanging out with Carly
Grandma Tina thanking Sadie for sleeping through the night. Here is her half smile like she knows something I don't. One of these days we will get her big smile.Sadie and I had bath time today while Carly went to the store with Tina. She actually enjoyed it for the most part.We had a great time with Lacy, Kathryn, and of course Elly. Sadie and Elly discussed life in general.Sadie got excited for her first Red Sox game tonight by putting on her Sox fleece she got from the Gaines family. She was upset we had to watch a game played at awful Tropicana Field. This was her cheering for Jason Bay's home run. I can't print what she just said after Brad Penny gave up another home run to the Rays. She is not happy about his performance.

A Little Outing with Sadie

So Sadie said she was feeling a little cabin fever and wanted to get out. Carly couldn't argue with her because it was an excuse to dress her up. Sorry for the never ending pictures, but we don't have anything else going on and the grandparents like the pictures.

Carly showing off how excited Sadie is to go to Jasons Deli for lunch. (Thanks ma for the gift card)
Carly was excited about the yellow dress with her little head band.Sadie was tired of Carly taking her picture so she glared at her.Sadie decided to make a fashion statement and bring back the flapper look. Carly says shes just thuggin it up.Even though people only want to see Sadie, Carly insisted on this picture being included. She was so proud of her perfectly filled cone at Jason's Deli. I said it was average at best.
